Incubators

The laboratory incubator is easy to use. Once connected to the electrical source, you only have to set the temperature required by the microorganism to be cultivated and the culture medium is introduced into it for the necessary time. In general, it works at temperatures between 60 and 65 ° C. Generally, a temperature of 37 ° C is used to grow bacteria, since they can grow naturally under these conditions.

Incubators have several applications in the laboratory. From experimental work in molecular biology and cell biology, to the diagnosis of diseases carried out in microbiological clinical laboratories. They are also used in the poultry industry, to act as substitutes for chickens in the egg incubation process.

Types of Incubators that a Laboratory may need

Microbiological Incubators

There are two main types of laboratory incubators, air incubators and moisture incubators. Air incubators keep the air inside the machine at a specific temperature and humidity. This is important, as sudden changes in the environment can damage cells or interfere with growth.

Moisture incubators, on the other hand, keep the moisture level inside the machine at a specific level. This is important to maintain fluid balance in the body, which is essential for the proper functioning of cells. They can also be used to control the pH of a solution.

Constant temperature incubator

The main function of this equipment is to store and condition the environment, in order to adequately develop microorganisms or cells, by controlling variables such as temperature, pressure and air circulation.

There are incubators that have the ability to control extremely low temperatures (microbiological incubators), humidity, and carbon dioxide levels (incubators for cell cultures). Microbiological incubators are mainly used in the growth and storage of bacterial cultures at temperatures between 5 and 37 ºC. For their part, the incubators for cell culture work at a temperature of 37 ºC, simulating the conditions of body temperature.

Working incubator

Without doubt incubators have a specific function within a laboratory, and that is to store and condition the environment, to carry out the necessary microorganism tests effectively and efficiently, some of their applications are to maintain microbiological and cellular cultures, in addition to analyzing microbiology compounds and the development of organic compounds; incubators manage to maintain the levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen that facilitate these studies, that is by the temperature, pressure and circulation of the air, characteristics of these equipment.
